1 Why bother? There are people that want to steal the aid money more than others want it to alleviate hunger and poverty. Who do you think will win out?

2 Sending food and money is a complete waste of time unless you really get off on adding to some dictator's Swiss bank account. The only thing that will help those people is to send in troops, stand everybody in government there up against the nearest wall, and establish a free market democracy. Then hang around five or ten years to make sure it takes root. Of course the US military is kind of busy right now, and threat countries take priority.

3 Damn it's depressing. If we give aid and food we aid the dictators and allow them to further their grip on their people; if we stand idly by we will feel we have thousands of deaths on our consciences. Our troops are, as Jay pointed out, busy. I guess it would receive universal condemnation if we just sent the guns ...
