When Denial Can Kill

July 28 - Irshad Manji: When Denial Can Kill.

Manji has written a sober, heartfelt essay on the need for a reformation in Islam and, as I read it, I was reminded again that the Enlightenment did not immediately succeed the reformation in Christianity but that there were wars, purges and massacres before the heretical notion of tolerance was accepted.

1 Martin is primarily an accountant. As finance minister he realized that budget surpluses can help insure his holding onto political power. We frugal Canadians do like a balanced budget and we will vote for Liberals when they provide budget gains. However, an accountant with federal power who focuses with fanatic zeal on the bottom line, is actually killing Canadian citizens. Shocking? Inaccurate? If an accurate count of those who have died while awaiting medical treatment were known, you can be sure Canadians would be aghast. This is mean governance not smart government with imagination at all. This same mindless worship of the bottom line is putting our Military at heightened risk. Unwise skimping on funds for the RCMP at these times of Jihadists in our midst seems less than brilliant to me. Is Martin going to wait for a 7/7 event before filling out the RCMP forces properly? Re-election at any cost eh? Shame on you Paulie. 73s TG
