July 6 - When the US asked Canada to to extend the tour of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan so they could help provide security during that country's September elections, the answer was "no."
There is a critical lessons in this, one which is especially relevant for Americans who believe that having the U.N. and/or NATO inolved would therefore bring significantly increased military assets: while we do gain more "allies" who demand a voice at the table, they won't or can't commit military or monetarily to do what it takes to see the mission through.

I think its time to get out of Nato and the UN!!!! Now

This kind of news is really disheartening. My wife and daughters cancelled their summer vacation to Canada this year because they're wondering about the attitudes they'd come up against.

Look, you can't have national health, and generous welfare and pensions--plus a competent military. The two things don't go together, and Europe has discovered this to its utter embarassment. Now Canada has learned the same lesson.
Just hope the US will always be there to defend Canada and Europe from enemies. Because the "highly civilized welfare state" is ripe for plucking by any barbarian horde that comes along.

A friend is in the Cdn. Air Force, and he's told me a number of times that the increasing trend in the Air Force is to contract out aircraft maintenance to civilian contractors. With a civilian-type aircraft like the AirBus, it makes sense. And its not a tactical, operational aircraft. But now its being done increasingly with operational aircraft, like the Cormorant Search And Rescue helicopter. SAR missions can happen at any time and anywhere in Canada. It seems like civilian service crews might not want to work the odd hours to make it happen.

Hey, American in TO, take your nose out of our affairs. We will deploy out troops how, when and where we choose It's NONE of your business. Don't like it? Go home!

JTF2 - the point is that Canada kept whining that they didn't want to "left out". The US wasn't supposed to go it alone.
What it comes down to is that the US had to make a politial accomodation to the Canadian public to salve some permanently hurt pride which never seems to stop fishing for more.
Come on - do you really think we need military help from an ill-equiped, ill-trained, marching band? Don't they have some self-imposed distractions that can keep them from becoming a problem? Some kind of transgendered soldier debate or something? Unionization?
Seriously. That's what it looks like from this side of the border. They are of little utility in war, peacekeeping, or even disaster relief or rescue at sea. It also hasn't brought the Canadian public to any greater understanding of why the Taliban had to go.

JTF2: Why do you have to be a jerk? Telling people to 'go home' once they say something negative about your country is childish. If I, a Canadian, say something negative about my country, where do you want me to go? I am sure the owner of this blog pays taxes like you and I do, taxes that help pay the Canadian government and the Canadian military. If you don't like what she writes then, stop reading her blog. It's her blog for crying out loud and she is free to write whatever she wants.
Debbye, it's nice to have you here in Toronto.

Let me second Annika's comment -- and add that we all certainly hope everything is okay . . .

I'm getting concerned too. Not a word about taking time off or anything. I hope you're all right, Debbye.

Hey Debbye,
Much as I'm bored by those bloggers that feel they must warn their readers if they won't be posting for a few days, a few weeks is a different story. I hope everything is okay. You had a nasty commenter in this last post and I hope you didn't take it personally and get discouraged. I know I get pretty apprehensive about comments on my blog (what if they misunderstand me?) and one like that would really shake me up and make me wonder what the heck I'm doing this for. But of course (as I'm sure you know), if you let some guy like that derail you, he wins.
But maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree. Whatever the reason for your disappearance, I hope you come back and let us know everything's alright and that you haven't renounced everything you believe, joined Greenpeace and are sitting in a tree somewhere.

Debbye has become one of my favorite bloggers in the entire blogosphere. I miss her. I hope to see her again soon, here in e-print.

30 days and no Debbye. Hope it's just a computer virus.

I sent her a couple of e-mails prior to July 6th, which she cheerily answered. Since then, I have sent two and have not heard from her. Her site was "infected" for awhile with some blog called "Closet Extremist" squatting on her July page. I hope this is all technical difficulties, and nothing human.

Any updates from anyone about Debbye? Any news? Has anybody received a response to email, even if they don't want to reveal the contents out of privacy concerns?

I'm certainly no IT person, so I may be completely wrong here, but it seems someone is overseeing the Board. A few days ago I noticed there was another squatter occupying Debbye's August page, but now that site has been disposed of. Hope springs eternal for Debbye's quick return.

I think the RNC stopped bankrolling this little, fifth column effort. It's not as if we don't have enough right-wing Americans commenting on the way this country is run. They've probably decided it just wasn't worth the money.

Well, tell them to come bankroll me, then.

How perfectly Canuck of you to smear someone when they are not around to defend themselves. Way to show that Canuck-courage!
So how is that All Jew Hating-All the Time network coming along? Working on ideas for harassing elderly Jews? (from a safe distance, of course)

God, you're an idiot, mikem. Just like all the other people who followed this right wing twit who can't be bothered to show up after months of absence. Coinciding of course with the dismal performance of her beloved country's invasion, rape and pillage of another country.
Your jew-hating comments are beyond contempt, you stupid, stupid person.
Hey, Debbya...these are your fans! Happy now?

I dunno. I'd think Debbye would've posted a comment via a friend's computer by now.
Maybe she just gave up on the blogosphere months ago and is living happily ever after assuming that we all had forgotten her by now.
